Invercargill’s Josh Burnett amped it up right from the get go of the single stage Giant Minaret Burn Mountain bike today racing the 62km’s in record time.
He finished across the line in 2:56 to take out the title for 2019.
“We couldn’t believe it when he came racing through TA1 before 10am ahead of all our predicted times,” says RBD Race Director Bex Law.
There was a real race for the top three male positions.
Following in a close second was Daniel Barry in a total time of 3:03 and Jeremy Gardner 4 minutes later at 3:06.
“The weather played its part for the first half of the day and these guys really benefited from that and a well conditioned track,” says Law.
First female home was Julia Grant in a time of 3:54.
“Julia had perfect composure on the mountain bike and is a very hardy racer with an international background,” says Law.
Emma Weston placed second female in a time of 4:07 and Georgian Reid took third in 4:10.
“It’s seriously been an impressive day for the Giant Minaret Burn Mountain Bike ride and one that I think all the 100 riders will never forget, says Law.
